SECRET POLICEMAN'S BALL REVIEWS
 The
show fell flat except for Eddie:
"However, one comic did receive praise - Eddie Izzard (pictured). Maxwell
writes: "His unique performance style is all about pulling together the wildly
incongruous and creating something rich and intelligent that leaves a warm feeling.
This curious night needed just that, and Britain's finest comedian delivered it
with his usual effortless panache."

EDDIE BACKS DISABLED FOOTBALLERS
A FOOTBALL club for disabled people has received a welcome boost thanks to
a celebrity fan. World famous comedian Eddie Izzard has donated £2,500 to the
1066 Specials to help with specialist coaching.
Eddie, who spent a large part of his childhood in the town, is a regular supporter
of Bexhill causes - he recently gave £5,000 to
Bexhill United FC towards the installation of new floodlights. He is also a patron
of the De La Warr Pavilion.
The 1066 Specials offer profoundly disabled people in Bexhill, Hastings and Rother
the chance to play football.
The club now boasts over 100 members and several teams just six years after its
formation.
Eddie's grant was an unexpected one, as the Specials hadn't asked him for money.
Club president Harold Lawrence was introduced to Eddie by the star's father, John,
at the Bexhill Achiever Awards this summer.
Harold originally asked the comic and actor to become a patron, but he declined
on the basis he didn't spend enough time in the country to offer the club adequate
support.
"That was fair enough," said Harold. "Then I got a call a while later from John
saying Eddie would like to know what we need. I told him we could always use help
with coaching. We are looking to spend money on disabled coaching and going into
local schools to offer coaching.
"Then I got another call asking if £2,500 would be alright. I said it would be
perfectly acceptable!"
Harold was originally unsure if the gesture should be made public but, following
the announcement by Bexhill United, he felt the Specials should also speak out
on Eddie's generosity.
"He is just a tremendous bloke," Harold added. "I think what I like about him
is that he does it for the right reasons. He thinks it through, asks what you
need and is then generous enough to contribute."
It represents yet more good news for the club, as they recently managed to find
the patron with local links they were looking for - Sir Paul McCartney agreed
to give his backing to the charity.
The ex-Beatle has given permission for the Specials to use his name on their literature
from now on.
Bexhill receive Izzard backing
Eddie Izzard has put his hand in his pocket to help Bexhill United Football Club's
quest for floodlights.
The Emmy award-winning stand-up comedian and dramatic actor, who was brought up
locally, has donated £5,000 to the Sussex County League Division Two club.
Bexhill chairman Colin Dunstall said: "It's absolutely fantastic and it's really
going to kick our floodlight fund off. He's such a nice chap, and despite his
hectic schedule, he still found time to think of Bexhill United."
It all came about as a result of a chance meeting between Izzard and several United
representatives at the Bexhill Achievers Awards back in July.
A little while later, Bexhill's honorary secretary Paul Donno received a telephone
call from Izzard's father, John, pledging the money and a cheque was received
on Saturday morning.
Izzard's donation has lifted the amount United have raised, taking into account
pledges, to approximately £15,000, although that is still less than half-way to
the £40,000 they need.
Floodlights are mandatory for any team going into Division One and Dunstall considers
it almost inevitable that at some stage the club won't be able to play in Division
Two without them.
"Floodlights down at The Polegrove would be just fantastic," added Dunstall. "It's
multi-faceted and the amount of users it would benefit would be amazing."
United won promotion from Division Three, plus the Division Three Challenge Cup
and the Sussex County FA Intermediate Cup during a glorious 2007-08 season under
manager Paul Tuppenney.
This success earned them the outstanding sports team prize at the Bexhill Achievers
Awards and they are now battling hard to preserve their Division Two status.
Any individuals or businesses wishing to contribute to United's floodlight fund
should contact Dunstall on 07970 295430 or Donno on 07971 920306.
Izzard, Dennehy join 'Every Day'
Duo added to Richard Levine-directed drama By MICHAEL FLEMING | Variety
Eddie Izzard and Brian Dennehy have joined Liev Schreiber, Helen Hunt and Carla
Gugino in "Every Day," the Richard Levine-directed drama that is shooting in New
York. Schreiber and Hunt star as a married couple in turmoil, and Gugino plays
a co-worker who tempts him. Levine, a "Nip/Tuck" vet who's making his feature
directing debut, wrote the script. Miranda Bailey and Matthew Leutwyler are producing
through Ambush Entertainment. Cold Iron Pictures is the sole financier on the
film. Izzard will next be seen in "Valkyrie" and then stars in "The Chronicles
